Save on your commute by setting aside pre-tax money from your paycheck for eligible public transportation and parking expenses.
You can enroll or change your contribution throughout the year directly through WageWorks.
Choose the account that fits your commute
Transit spending account
Use pre-tax money for eligible transportation to and from work, including:
- Subway
- Train
- Bus
- Eligible vanpool
Parking spending account
Use pre-tax money for eligible work-related parking, including parking at or near your workplace or at a location where you take public transportation to work.
You can enroll in one or both accounts, depending on how you commute.
- Transit Spending Account: Expenses incurred traveling to and from work using mass transit subway, train, bus or van pool.
- Parking Spending Account: Work-related parking expenses incurred near or at a work site from a facility in which you commute to work via mass transit such as the subway, train, bus, or van pool.
How much can you contribute?
You can contribute up to:
- Parking Spending Account: $340 per month
- Transit Spending Account: $340 per month
Your election is deducted from your paycheck before taxes. The amount you elect is divided equally among the number of paychecks you receive each month. If you elect more than the monthly pre-tax limit, the additional amount will be deducted after taxes.
Enroll or make changes anytime
Enroll or update your contribution through WageWorks using these instructions, or call 877-924-3967, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. ET.
Changes made by 11:59 p.m. ET on the 10th of the month take effect the first day of the following month. Changes made after the 10th take effect one month later.
Example: If you change your election September 6, it will be effecitve October 1. Changes made on September 15 will be effecitve November 1.
Paying for your commute
- For transit: Use the WageWorks Commuter Card for eligible expenses or, where available, have your monthly transit pass delivered to you.
- For parking: Use the WageWorks Commuter Card, have WageWorks pay your parking provider directly, or pay out of pocket and submit a claim for reimbursement.
What happens to unused money?
Unused funds remain in your account while you’re employed. If you leave UMG:
- Parking: Any remaining balance is forfeited.
- Transit: You’ll have 90 days from your termination date to use the remaining balance on your Commuter Card.
