Tuition reimbursement

UMG supports your professional growth by reimbursing up to $5,000 per calendar year for approved courses or degree programs.

Who’s eligible

  • Full-time employees who have completed 6 months of service by the first day of class
  • You must be actively employed at the time of reimbursement
  • Your department must have budget available (determined by your department)

What’s covered

Eligible courses:

  • Course of Study or Degree Program: Must be related to your current position and offered by an accredited college, university or trade school. 
  • Individual Courses: Course(s) must be related to your current position or career advancement at UMG. The course must be offered by an accredited college, university or trade school.

Eligible expenses:

  • Tuition at accredited institutions only*
  • Registration fees
  • Lab fees
  • Required books

Reimbursement is issued after course completion:

  • Grade “C” or higher for undergrad
  • Grade “B” or higher for grad programs
  • Attendance confirmation for no-credit courses

All documentation must be submitted within 60 days of course completion unless granted an extension by People, Inclusion & Culture.

What’s not covered (at accredited institutions only):

  • Late fees, parking, notebooks, and supplies
  • Seminars/workshops not at an accredited school
  • Any portion of tuition covered by financial aid (grants, scholarships, etc.)

If you are seeking reimbursement for a course that is not offered by an accredited institution, contact your manager and People Business Partner to inquire if it can be reimbursed outside of the Tuition Reimbursement program and through Expensys instead.

How to Apply

Before your course begins:

  1. Log in to io
  2. Follow this tutorial to complete the application
  3. Submit required documents and request approvals from your manager and People Business Partner
    1. Your manager will need to create a Tuition.io account and approve your application in the platform using these instructions
  4. Check approval status on Tuition.io
    1. Follow up with the next approver to ensure your application is approved in a timely manner

After your course ends:

  1. Log in to io
  2. Upload receipts, grades, and final documents
  3. Approved reimbursements will appear in your paycheck within 2–3 pay periods

Required documents

  • Course descriptions
  • Course costs
  • Proof of enrollment/registration
  • Final grades or transcript
  • Receipts for tuition and books (must be itemized with school/bookstore name)
