Commuter FSA

The commuter FSA allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for expenses related to your work commute such as public transportation and parking.

Types of Accounts

  • Transit Spending Account: Expenses incurred traveling to and from work using mass transit subway, train, bus or van pool.
  • Parking Spending Account: Work-related parking expenses incurred near or at a work site from a facility in which you commute to work via mass transit such as the subway, train, bus, or van pool.

How Much Can You Contribute

The maximum amount you can contribute to each program on a pre-tax basis in 2025 is:

  • Parking Spending Account: $325 per month
  • Transit Spending Account: $325 per month

You can contribute up to the maximum to one or both programs. The amount you elect is divided equally among the number of paychecks you receive each month and is deducted from your pay before taxes. Any amount you elect over the pre-tax maximums will be taken on an after-tax basis.

How to Enroll

You can enroll in the program on the WageWorks website using these instructions or call WageWorks at 877-924-3967 from Monday to Friday, 8 am – 8 pm ET. Changes to this account are also made directly in your WageWorks account.

Changes made by 11:59 ET on the 10th of the month will be effective on the 1st of the following month. For example, changes made on September 6 will be effective October 1, while changes made on September 15 will be effective November 1.

Any balances that remain in your parking account at termination will be forfeited per IRS regulations. For your transit commuter FSA card, you will have 90 days from the termination date to spend down any available balance.

Reimbursement Process

When you enroll in the Transit program, you can elect to use the WageWorks Commuter Card or have your monthly transit passes delivered to your address.

When you enroll in the Parking Program, you can have WageWorks pay your parking provider directly, use the WageWorks Commuter Card, or submit a claim to be reimbursed online.

WageWorks Commuter FSA Card

If you elect to use the WageWorks Commuter Card, you can use it to pay for your eligible commuting expenses. Funds from each month’s order will be loaded on to your card on the 20th of the month of the prior month (for example, June 20 for the July benefit month) for the transit card, and the 1st of the benefit month for the parking card. You can then use it to pay for your commuting expenses for the upcoming benefit month.
